      Good afternoon,
When I started getting into digital modes I also grabbed the band plans and started in the CW ranges and sweep the lower band range. For instance for 20M: 14000 up to about 14069 for CW; 140695 to 14074 for PSK; 14075 to 14080 other WSJT formats; 14080-14100 RTTY. Enjoy.

Congratulations! Spectacular footage of the burst. Great work by you and the students. Should be great fun analyzing the data and the video.

Glad everyone has had a chance to review the actual results and form an assessment of the group’s achievements. Seems to me, better CW and multiplier success are helpful factors, while having more positions is a lesser factor. We have trouble getting CW operators for regular Field Day.

Congrats to all of the participating members.

Please remember the organizers are volunteers, too. For some perspective, a crew of computer savvy people (a couple of them from this club) got together to develop a better scoring system for the regional and state finals for Odyssey of the Mind, much more complex than this and it took them several years to get it squared away.

            Good Afternoon,
The public hearing for HB417 has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 5th at 10:45 AM in Room 302 of the Legislative Office Building. I urge you to contact the committee with your thoughts on the bill. You can either attend in person or send an e-mail to the committee at:

            [email protected]
(Please cut and paste the address into to your email)

You do not necessarily have to submit your remarks by the 5th, since the committee will be working on the bill at a later meeting or meetings. So, you have a week or so to act.

I can assure you that the committee will consider your remarks. They are very diligent in this regard. In addition, your email becomes part of the committee’s public record. The committee will likely not take any action on the bill until a later date, when they will review the comments and deal with any amendments before voting of final action as either Ought to Pass, Ought to pass with amendment, Interim Study or Inexpedient to Legislate.

I have a dental appointment the morning of the 5th and I am uncertain if I can make it to Concord in time to testify. If the hearings head of the bill run over their allotted times, then I might make it.

If you do attend the hearing, PLEASE SIGN IN, on the sheet at the table inside the entry to the hearing room. You do not have to personally testify, but you can and should indicate whether to support or oppose the bill. If you do decide to testify, keep your remarks brief and on point.

Keep in mind that the ARRL Board (sic) is reviewing its position on the bill that has been languishing in Congress. They may decide to withdraw the bill because of the concerns raised by the membership over the usefulness of the language of the bill.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me [email protected] or phone at 494-2579.

Great job, Jamey. Luck has sometimes been defined as “where preparation meets opportunity”. Especially when the gods smile.

                    Jay,
I have an MFJ-259 you are welcome to borrow. I can vouch for the advice of the other replies. I have an MFJ screwdriver antenna that I have used portable with 8 radials off a DX Engineering radial plate. I cut mine for a little over 22″ and was hitting central Europe with my Kenwood TS-140s and 100 watts when I used it on the Cape. Sea water was a great help, I’m sure. I also have 20 radials installed in my yard for an LDG s9 31 foot collapsible antenna. 4 of the radials are the suggested 28’10” the others are around 22’8″. Used another DX engineering radial plate. I used the calculations for the shorter ones from one of the articles attached to an earlier reply. Had good results with the set up. As has been stated, it’s a matter of try this, then that until you get either frustrated or good results. For me this is the “fun” (i.e, satisfaction) in amateur radio.

Thanks, Fred. In addition, got my DXCC (#62,671) on 2/1/17 and my CQ WPX (#4008) on 4/11/17. I think I am 5 states short for WAS.

Check the number of magnets on the magmount. Most only use 2 and they do not support a badge of this size, let alone a smaller one. I converted my current club badge to a 3 magnet strip from the pin and it holds must better. TOTALLY agree with comments on placement of pin/magnet to prevent drooping. Otherwise, we’re better off with paper “slap on” badges that can be read.
