Sounds like a plan, Fred.  I have done all that (except the body part).  But what happened this time is that I was getting a direction on the 3rd harmonic of #2 as well as getting #3 at 10KHz off, but I could never get the 3rd of #3.  I could walk along and get directions and strong/weaker, but I’m now wondering if maybe they were on a parallel path (I was on the Wildflower Trail).

You were at Maple Hill Farm in that parking lot?  I did not see you at all!  That’s where I started. Bummer!

Definitely interested.  For me, it would be better to actually do one as a group since I probably know the basics.  I’m just missing some tricks.  Maybe part of it is to have a map 🙂

I hope no one says “But it was under that log!”

Well, not much luck again. Actually more luck…I got Fox 1 and 2 on the 3rd harmonic, and Fox 3 on the primary plus 10KHz off. I may even have walked by, or it may have been in a parallel path. No one else seen looking around.

                Hi Jacob!

Just a thought:  A Yaesu FT-817ND is a really nice all-mode radio–portable with batteries, or plug in to the mains with a transformer, or into 12V in a car.   Lots of frequencies you could not use with Technician, but incentive is nice, right?

Two disadvantages:  It is only 5W.  That may be fine for you depending on your use.

The other is that it is $800 new.  There are a lot of them around, so you might find it cheaper used.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the little line/knob on the top of 1 picture and the bottom of the other is the end of the receive antenna with a bit of melted fishing line tied to it.  The fishing line holds in against the satellite during launch and is melted after the bird is released in orbit.

                      Repeat from the other topic:

I also heard the big one at my house in Hollis both with my satellite crossed Yagi (manually pointing of course) and with an HT and tape-measure handheld Yagi.  Did not hear the smaller critter.
I went out searching before the snow, but never got quite close enough to hear the 3rd harmonic.  I did get close enough to hear it 10KHz off.  Totally forgot to try the small fox.  Insufficient experience and/or too little gain on the antenna, I guess.  Next time I’ll go with someone.

Thanks for the opportunity/excuse to get out of the house and walk around in the brisk weather!  Looking forward to seeing the pictures to see whether I really was close!

BTW, when this is over, could you post a photo of the real thing?  I did not exactly know what I was looking for.
