You must be logged in to view attached files.Hi Anita,
I plan on joining you this Sunday for the CW rookie roundup. I’m posting to the forum in hopes of encouraging others to participate. I worked the round up last year and it was tremendous fun. As you point out, the code is slow and the participates are very patient with those new to CW. Everyone wants to make a contact regardless of the speed.
Even if you don’t know any CW but want to learn or see what it’s all about, please com join us. As a multi-op, all us rookies help each other with decoding and the software does all the sending. It’s a lot of fun with zero stress. I hope to see you there.
Thanks,
Jerry, K1OKDThanks Anita & Fred for session #3.
Myself & my two young associates enjoyed the tour of HRO. As a funny aside, on the way home, my 9 year old daughter commented;
“you know dad, what I learned tonight is if mom can’t hear you, just try switching to digital.”
Have a relaxing Thanksgiving.

I have been using RPi’s for a few years now. I recently decided to get an RPi 4 and read that they generate a lot of heat so I looked for a RPi and a case with a fan. I found the “CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Basic Starter Kit with Fan” for a very reasonable price, $80, and I see it is now $85 and still a good deal.

It was fun hearing everyone’s stories about their first contacts after getting licensed!

Scott – I think you already have me on your list for Kit Building support. I plan to help with the setup on Friday and Sunday teardown efforts.
I will be available for some time slots on Saturday and Sunday.

Hi Jamey,
I made a typo in that last email.
The command you want to issue is ” ls /dev/tty*”. Without the quotes. In case you are not used to the command line you need to open a terminal window. It will be a fairly long list. Doing this before and after connecting the radio makes it easier to find the new port.

Hi Jamey,
The association of the USB to com port adapter happens automatically in Raspbian. To find out Which port you need to connect to you need to use the command line.
First without the radio cable connected issue this command.
ls /dev/tty
This will list all the assigned ports.
Then connect the radio cable and issue the above command again.
Look in the list for the new entry. That is the port that you need to use. I should look something like “/dev/ttyUSBx”, where x is usually a number.
Hope this helps,
Greg
