HI Jamey,
Thanks! You and Abby are on the list!
Hi Wayne,
This is a great idea. Anita and I would do it for sure and I bet that others in our club would be interested in trying fox hunting as well.
Just a note on WSJT-X. As long as one disables compression and any equalizer settings, using the radio in SSB mode should be fine for digital modes. It looks like the radio has about 1.2 KHz in digital mode. In my experience, this will often be enough for most WSJT-X operation on the HF bands. I will make it a point to play with digital with my IC-7300 when I get a chance to get it on the air.
Hi Mike,
The traffic on our club nets has been picking up since we’ve changed the time to start a little earlier. I’m planning to be on this Sunday. Looking forward to it and thanks for running the net!
Hi Curtis,
Great! Can you tell me a little bit about your current setup? Please send to my personal email via the link below.
I have a shack too!
Thanks for posting Wayne. You are right, if you have a good antenna, you can go a very long way using QRP. Adding CW to the mix helps even more. One of my longest contacts ever was to Western Australia which is about 1/2 way around to world from here. I made it using CW and 5w. That works about to a little over 2,000 mi/watt.
When I first read the title of this forum I thought that maybe CW and QRP was a choice of one or the other. Then I thought, ‘Nah, couldn’t be.’. I’ve been a member of NEQRP (The New England QRP Club) for several years now and almost every person I’ve met uses CW. When you’re operating with 5 watts, usually considerably less, CW will make the trip when phone such as SSB can’t get through the noise.
Last year I watched a friend make contact from Dover NH to Russia on about 3 1/2 watts. Even that was probably more than he needed. Another friend operates pedestrian mobile on the beach in Hampton NH. With 3 or so watts and an antenna sticking out of his backpack he frequently contacts Europe.
Check into it. You may find that you don’t really need that new amp after all.
Super Mike, thanks!
Thanks Layne – you’re in!! Happy to have you work from both your home QTH and over here some. You might want to do some phone and some CW…
