The Nashua Area Radio Society Story

Quite a few Nashua Area Radio Society members are headed for the Dayton Hamvention® this week. The theme of Hamvention 2019 is “Mentoring the Next Generation”. We will be receiving some important recognition for our work to bring new Hams into the Amateur Radio Service, for our Amateur Radio related STEM learning programs in local schools, and for our many Ham Mentoring projects. We will be recognized as the Dayton Hamvention 2019 Club of the Year. We will also be sharing The Nashua Area Radio Society Story as a forum presentation at Dayton.

We are also being recognized by the ARRL as a Spotlight Club for our Mentoring work. The ARRL has dedicated their “ARRL Spotlight on Radio Clubs and Mentoring” forum on Friday, May 17th at 11:50 am in Forum Room 3 to us so that we can share The Nashua Area Radio Society Story including ideas and programs that have worked well for us. I want to express my deepest appreciation and thanks to all of the Nashua Area Radio Society members have contributed so much to our many projects, programs, and activities. Without all of you, we would not have been able to do what we have done to help others and to forward the Amateur Radio Service.

We hope that our readers who will be attending the Dayton Hamvention this year will join us for our Forum Presentation on Friday and will also stop by and see our display in the ARRL Booth at Dayton.

We’ll be sharing highlights from Dayton 2019 in our Forums as we go and Scott, NE1RD has time planned for us to share our Dayton experience at an upcoming meeting when we return.

The Nashua Area Radio Society will be hosting Amateur Radio Displays, Expos, and Forums at Regional and National Hamfests and Ham Radio Conventions over the next 6 months.

Dayton Hamvention ® 2019

2019 ARRL National Convention at Hamvention

We will be a Special Guest of the ARRL in their Booth at Dayton this year. You can learn more via the ARRL’s flyer here. Quite a few NARS members will be attending Dayton 2019 and many will be supporting our presence in the ARRL Booth. We will also be hosting the ARRL Member forum on Friday, May 17th in Room 3. If you are going to Dayton this year, stop by and meet our members and say Hello!

We are also planning another Youth Expo at the Boxboro Regional Ham Convention to be held on September 6th, 7th, and 8th. Our Expo will feature over 10 Amateur Radio Displays including:

A computer controlled Satellite Ground Station that you can use to make a contact through a Satellite in Space
A Shortwave Radio Station that you can use to talk to Hams all over the world
A Display about High-Altitude Balloons that carry radio transmitters to the edge of space
Keys and activities to try out sending and receiving Morse Code
Building Ham Radio Gear using Kits and Computers
A NEW ACTIVITY! A Ham Bootcamp Activity which introduces the world of Amateur Radio and helps folks to get on the air
A GoKit for Amateur Radio Emergency Communications that you can try
Gear for locating Hidden Radio Transmitters (we call it Fox Hunting)
And much more!

Hamvention® Club of the Year Award

The Nashua Area Radio Society has been recognized as the 2019 Hamvention® Club of the Year. Below is the video of the announcement from the DX Engineering facebook page.
