Jamie, this truly is an amazing mobile contact you described. Great catch. I too noticed a nice opening into Asiatic Russia, but I was working them digital.

The one station I worked had a very strong signal and the thought of jumping over to Upper Side Band to see if there were any good DX did cross my mind. Unfortunately for me I decided to stay on the digital portion of the band.
What antenna were you using?

Brian,
Being a newbie at submitting an article and not finding the “post which explains how,” I have sent a draft to your QRZ email address ([email protected]). See email with subject “Revised NARS newsletter article.”

Thanks for the responses everybody! That really points me in the right direction. NEARFEST sounds like a really great time – I’ll look more into it. I’d love to attend.
In regards to my Yaesu FT60, the glass cover protecting the LCD broke years ago. The LCD still works. I think it struggles to pick up some signals too, however, that may be user error 😉
Thanks again! 73

KC1IGAHi Jacob
You could check the Ham Radio Outlet located in Salem NH on Rt.28 for radio packages that you are looking for. They might have what you are seeking.
The other place you may want to check is http://www.buytwowayradios.com. They have an assortment of radios and package deals that may interest you. Might be worth checking.

Hey Burns,
Thanks for the suggestion. Looking into it now – I would love to eventually jump to the general license class. This really peaks my interests 🙂

I was surprised at last year’s results. Using callsign N1W, I was in 5th place and First Place Hillsborough County…. Layne AE1N

Hi Jamey,
I have access to D-STAR & had the best luck using the reflectors.
The Arizona D-STAR Net reflector is REF009C
Which my radio is connected to.If you know REF or Gateway of the Mt. Lemmon DSTAR radio I could try that as well. I’ll just need to know the time of day that you will be on the air.
