Brian, I should have added I have ICOM radio and use RTTY for drive while tuning amp.

Hey Brian, To start I am somewhat tech challenged with most of these elec issues so use a few grains of salt with my experiences with tuning my Kenwood TL 922. I also use an al-80B with tuning similarity.
As to tuning in CW I do not have an answer why, but seems when going to SSB from CW tuning, the amp may not be properly tuned. I received distortion complains from tuning in CW and was suggested to tune in SSB.
Here is what I do, make sure amp band and trans freq. match then select SSB. Use load/output power meter in line. Amp load/plate to known value or suggested per manual. Drive 5-10 watts and key down. Watching output power move amp load control to max output — then adjust plate to max output. Then increase drive and repeat for max power or until you have output power you want.
I do watch Ig and Ip during initial operations for correct parameters, but always seem OK.
Here is a link for tuning 922 and he does start in CW but finishes in SSB.

Thanks for the ALC info. I have never used it because I did not understand and reading some of the amp manuals for set up really was confusing.
Hope my assessment is correct, but where I frequently use head set and boom mic and made my connection on my 7300 by removing the mic and installing a special Heil plug for my headset and mic, along with a foot pedal. This arrangement gives me a buffer for my amp if amp ever has a voltage problem on the keying circuit to add protection to the radio. Apparently this foot pedal has a delay circuit which keys amp ahead of radio to prevent hot switching that maybe of concern with my old type amp.
What a great radio. 73
I used this process at my last renewal and was quite easy with benefit to the club.

I would highly suggest first download Netlogger, it is a great program for seeing nets that are currently on line and logging as well. No card printing with this program, but direct upload to e-QSL and files can be uploaded to other programs where you maybe able to print QSL cards.

Next link is to 3905 Century Club, another net that is more structured with check ins as uses calling areas and then periodic call for additional check ins. This group has digital, CW as well as SSB nets. Normally, 40m SSB is 8PM local time on 7.2675, but YL System net is just ahead of this net. You can see all these nets on Netlogger.

Very surprising and sad. Will more details/information be forth coming??
Like the QSL card. Looking forward to seeing more pictures from your trip and/or perhaps a presentation at one of our club meetings

To me the most important issue in the design of badges is to put the clip or magnet near the top of badge. Frequently the pins or magnet are placed in the center thus allowing the badge to fall forward at an angle making it difficult to see.
Just my 2 cents. 73 Mike KU1V
Thanks for sharing Fred, Thus far my biggest stumbling block is my old habits. The old dot and dash keeps jumping in when I miss the sound and try to recover I end up missing a couple letters. I am over coming, but progress is slow. The key and oscillator is a definite help in sound development.
Thanks to this class I feel I have made good progress.

Thanks Mike.
