Student Kit Build at World Academy

Aya KC1JEB, Tom AB1NS, Mike K1WVO, and Fred AB1OC recently hosted a Morse Tutor kit build for students at World Academy. World Academy was a HAB-3 School and the student kit build is one of several follow-on activities that we’ve been doing there.

We built a total of 16 kits over two sessions with the students at the school and had a lot of fun in the process!

Thanks to the excellent mentoring by Aya, Tom, Mike, and their teacher Gisele, all of the kits have been completed and are working!

In addition to mentoring the students, Gisele also built a kit of her own and got it working!

Our next session with the students will be to help them learn the Morse Code and begin practicing with their kits. We are also planning a Morse Code competition using the kits similar to the ones we have done in the past.

This project has been great fun for all involved and we have provided the kits free of charge thanks to the support from our generous donors as part of our ongoing fundraising campaign.

We have received several requests to share the image and construction details for the Raspberry Pi Satellite Tracker Interface. We use the Sat Tracker interface with MacDoppler as part our Portable Satellite Stations. The Sat Tracker described in the article uses a Raspberry Pi Computer with a touch screen interface to interface MacDoppler to Green Heron Engineering RT-21 Rotator Controller(s). Spring 2019 License Classes

Do you know someone who is interested in getting a Ham Radio license?  Are you thinking of getting an upgrade?   If so, consider taking one of our license classes.  Our first Spring 2019 License Class is only 1 month away.  Here is the schedule:

  • Technician License Class – Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th
  • General License Class – Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th
  • Extra License Class – Friday, April 26th, Saturday, April 27th, and Sunday, April 28th

We hold our classes at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Nashua, NH

During our class, we go over every question in the pool two times. We have plenty of demos, including a working radio station, to help you remember the information and give you some knowledge to get started once you have your license.  Our instructors are passionate about Amateur Radio and will pass their enthusiasm on to you.  We have a success rate of over 90%.

In order to maximize your ability to pass the exam that is held at the end of the class, there is some pre-work.  You will need to read the Gordon West License Class book for the level and complete an open book “fill in the blanks” assignment that you will receive when you register.
