Hi Jamey,
Got the email at 5:30pm so I missed it.
Hope others had a chance to find it.
Ari (WB1ABC)
So, we got to the trailhead about 8:30 AM (it’s impossible not to be late with a kid) and didn’t see anyone familiar, so figured everyone had already started up and set out ourselves — made it up to the top by about 11 (again, kid 🙂 but didn’t see any radio-activity (although I heard a few other peaks reporting in on 520). Well, no problem, I set up my 900MHz Yagi and had fun seeing how far I could get out with my 2.5W Alinco HT. (Answer: at least to Boston!) Didn’t formally activate the summit, but had a few nice 33cm QSOs (only repeaters, no bites on the simplex calling frequencies unfortunately), conversations with people curious about what I was doing, and lunch. Kid got antsy after a couple hours so we started down again, only to meet the rest of the group coming up… oh well. Hope everything went well and lots of contacts were had!
I, along with the XYL (KB1UFN) and our 8-year-old Kara are planning on joining for the hike up. Â I doubt we’ll have any equipment other than a couple of HTs, as I’m not really well set up for portable operation, but looking forward to it anyway.

I’ll be there with my KX3, buddipole vertical kit, and DMR equipment.
Sounds like it doesn’t want to transmit on top of another station. Usually, when the squelch is opened that means there’s another signal present. It seems to me like a reasonable design. Too bad that rule breaks down if you’ve just been working satellites…
FYI, so you don’t have to do a QRZ.com search, my email address is: [email protected].
The backpack is a great suggestion.
Let’s have an informal NARS simplex channel at 446.025, PL88.5 to keep the radio quiet? Nothing formal, just a frequency we can check in to for lunch or dinner meets, or to get relief at the NARS booth.
