Hi Duane,
I can recommend 2 combinations:
SDRPlay and SDRUno software
Airspy and SDRSharp Software + Scanner Plugin
both of the above combinations will give you the ability to monitor all the bands, even unattended to come back and later see what activities happened at various times of the day at your location using your antennas. Combine this info with WSPR and you get a very full picture of what bands are open when at your location using your antennas. For an example see this video of scanning with SDRPlay
https://youtu.be/jeaTwyp7UOkFor scanning i prefer the SDRPlay combo wit the RSP Duo SDR because of the 2 receivers and i can scan HF and VHF simultaneously.

bammiDuane,
Here is a pointer, the site has both visual and audio samples for most popular Digital Modes

bammiI discovered the same limitation: I took the photo i had, cropped it down, and then in MS Paint re-sized it and then saved as JPG to get the file size down. Resultant image got distorted and it looks like i have a really wide face !
Thanks Craig
looking forward to setting up a station, SSB and Digital from MA FN42gn and will contribute to N1FD

Hi Duane,
I use RG 8X for all my HF connections, including 6M, much more manageable than LMR 400. For VHF/UHF you may consider LMR Flex. I live with LMR 400, terminating at window antenna feed thru and then for the short jumper to the Xcvr i use RG8X.

bammiBetter yet buy a matrix switch for example a MFJ 1700c, you get two switches, to switch any of 6 Antennas to any of 6 Radios, plus a spot to hook in your SWR/Wattmeter. Or you can go for 2 ubiquitous Alpha Delta Switches for more money and a marginally better switch.
Another advantage of a switch solution is that when you switch away from a selected position, that position gets grounded, so you get protection from transmitting power from other positions.
The insertion loss is negligible up to 300 mHz or so.

Thanks Matt,
I will take up your kind offer and sched a test. Doing some reading around building NVIS – its spring time finally, and time to build an antenna!73 de kc1ccr
bammiMarch 28, 2017 at 11:52 pm in reply to: 2M Simplex Spacing and 70cm simplex in the NH/MA/RI local area #14456Thank you very much Bill, Matt and Michael. Exactly the information I was looking for.
Matt thanks for your kind offer to sched a simplex chat, I will take you up on it. Also, will try the 10m club net. I travel a fair bit for work, so the next chance I get i will try.
Thanks again all, much appreciate the info

bammiJust wanted to mention, instead of using a T/R Switch, DX engineering has a RF limiter that can be put in front of the SDRPlay to protect it. Seems like a simpler solution than keying a T/R switch bringing out the keying line etc. (Please do let me know if i am conceptually missing something and a T/R switch is absolutely necessary). Here is a link to the DX Engineering RF Limiter

As Fred mentions you need a T/R switch. I have a similar setup to the one in the video below, with a MFJ T/R switch, SDRPlay RSP1 and Win3KX3 suite handling the spectrum display with QSY on click etc.
