      Hello Marvin,

You have found a likely source of the voices that occur in random parts of a FT8 RX period. I initially thought they were Lids trying to jam or a strong phone signal leaking through.

System sounds will “play through” if they are not disabled.

Often the voice is near the start of multiple 15sec receive periods. The odds are low they were system sounds due to timing.  Radio voice messages or something like a MFJ voice keyer would occure right after the start of TX.

If the OM has “fake it” or split enabled there would be a frequency called out at the start of TX.

Do you use gridtracker? I mute my alerts or else I’ll hear “wanted call” or another alert over the radio speaker. Nothing going out over the air, but the sound card pumps PC audio through the radio speaker sometimes.

        Hi All:

UPDATE: It was me. I was (and am) getting RF into the computer. However, I don’t think I’m the only one having this problem as I hear different voice snippets on FT8 even with my computer off.

I’ve spent close to $100 on beads and toroids. I put in a “premium” USB cable between the computer and the IC-7300. It didn’t help. I put toroids on BOTH ends of the USB cable. It didn’t help. I doubled or tripled beads on the other wires on my station. It didn’t help.

Finally, I started pulling off the other computer connections. When I pulled the cable for my second monitor, the RF in the computer stopped. No voice snippet on FT8.

So far, nothing I’ve tried stops the problem with the second monitor. I’ve switched to a different monitor and still had the problem. I put a toroid on the monitor cable and it didn’t help.

It may be my NUC Windows machine. It’s really small and all the connections are close together. However, I don’t have another Windows computer to try, and I don’t want to buy another computer and still have the problem. I do miss the second monitor.

I don’t know what else to try to suppress the problem with the second monitor.

        Regards,

        Frank, WS1MH
