We are digging the footing for a new house bracketed tower here today. The forms for the footing and the associated rebar cage will be done by about 4 pm this afternoon. The building inspector will be by in the morning tomorrow to approve everything and we’ll be pouring the concrete in the afternoon.
I know that some folks in NARS are interested in seeing how all of this is done so folks are welcome to stop by today or tomorrow to have a look. Best time to see the details will be after the cage is built but before we pour the concrete. That will most likely be between 4 pm this afternoon (Monday) and noon tomorrow (Tuesday). This evening will be OK too. If we don’t come to the door, just come around the back of the house – we’ll be working there.

Footing for House Bracketed Tower[/caption]Here’s a picture of the footing hole, rebar cage, and form. We’ve plumbed the first section of the tower and secured both the tower section and the rebar cage to the form. We’ve also added 6″ of crushed stone in the bottom of the hole to provide drainage for water that will flow down the tower legs. The legs are taped and are covered with about 4″ of stone to prevent wet cement from plugging up the legs and allowing standing water in the legs to accumulate and cause damage to the tower.
The building inspector will be here this morning to approve the footing and we’re planning to pour and finish the cement this afternoon.
Everyone is welcome to come by today and take a look. I will be around all day.

Poured Base for House Bracketed Tower[/caption]We poured the foundation for our new tower this morning. We spent some time with a level to make sure everything is level and plumb. The forms will come off after the cement cures for 24 hours or so.
