On July 11, The Nashua Area Radio Society hosted a fox hunt at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, an activity that challenges participants to locate hidden radio transmitters—known as “foxes”—using radio direction-finding techniques. The event attracted 15 operators, ranging from very young participants to the young at heart.

The weather was ideal, and Mine Falls Park provided a perfect setting for the hunt. With its network of trails and scenic pathways, the park offered participants an opportunity to enjoy both amateur radio and the natural beauty of the area.

A welcome table was set up near the park entrance to help hunters get started and to provide guidance for those who had never participated in a fox hunt before. Experienced operators were on hand to explain equipment, share direction-finding techniques, and mentor newcomers throughout the event.

Four fox transmitters were strategically hidden throughout the park. Some were relatively easy to locate, while others required a bit more persistence and skill. Each transmitter location included a logbook and pencil so hunters could record their successful finds. As an added incentive, each fox also contained candy as a reward for those who tracked it down.

The event provided a fun and educational experience for all participants while promoting the practical skills of radio direction finding, teamwork, and operating proficiency. Judging by the smiles and enthusiastic conversations afterward, everyone enjoyed the challenge and looked forward to future hunts.
