Jamey, Curtis, and Connor have recovered HAB-3 southeast of Townsend, MA. Curtis had to scale a 65 ft tree to retrieve our HAB and he was able to get it back intact! Thank you, Curtis!
The balloon burst at 114,815 ft asl. This was quite close to our predicted burst altitude of 110,000 ft asl.

HAB-3 Actual Flight Path[/caption]
Our HAB’s actual flight path (above) was also very close to the predicted flight path (below).

HAB-3 Predicted Flight Path[/caption]
We encountered the coldest temperatures yet during HAB-3’s ascent where we saw a temperature of -73 degrees F at about 38,000 ft asl. The closed backs that we added to the cameras helped but the cameras ultimately could not stand these extremely cold temperatures and they shut down at about 42,500 ft. The video up to this point was spectacular!
We want to thank all of the students, teachers, parents, and members who came out to help us launch and track out HAB! We will be getting together in the near future to analyze the data from our flight and see what we can learn from it.
We are working on a video from HAB-3. If you took pictures and/or video of HAB-3, please send them to Fred, AB1OC at [email protected] via a Dropbox or some other link.
