Completed recent Tech class on 6/7 Oct and passed Gen exam. Considering first “base station” purchase.  Want an HF/VHF/UHF rig.

What’s everyone think of C4FM on a base station…wave of the future?

Looking ahead to digital ops next 5 years…is C4FM a wise choice or not really needed?

      Hi Scott,

I think that all of the digital choice C4FM, DMR, D-STAR all come down to how many repeaters are available and where they are located relative to where you operate. I think D-STAR is probably the most widely deployed (and oldest) digital standard. DMR is more recent and is catching up fast. I suspect that C4FM is the least popular.

      I hope this helps you.

      Thanks, Fred.

Your response helped me establish where to place C4FM on my selection criteria priority list for a base station (low or no priority).

      Scott
