An Opinion Of Sorts

My name is John Halbert, and my call sign is W1SMN. My previous call sign was KA1HOV.  I have been a member of the Nashua Area Radio Society (previously known as the Nashua Area Radio Club) for 40 years.  In the past, I have held the Offices of Secretary and Vice President.  My current title is Publicity Chairman for the Nashua Area Radio Society (NARS).

Now you are probably saying to yourself, what does the Publicity Chairman do?  Thanks for asking.  Well to start with, a lot.  I have held this position for quite a long time because of my Broadcasting career for 42 years.  I am very proud of what I do.  I get very involved with many things NARS does.  My biggest and favorite is Field Day.  To start with, I make and distribute 50 posters at various locations throughout the greater Nashua area, and the surrounding towns.  I send press releases to the newspapers and email invitations to Government officials.  I make arrangements for TV coverage of our Field Day event, arrange for food donations, and make food too.

Well to you, this may sound like a lot of work.

It is.  But I learned something VERY IMPORTANT a long time ago, and that is:

“You only get out of something, what you are willing to put into it”.  I hope you know where I’m going with this.

NARS is asking for your help in many areas such as running for Office (Training will be provided), setting up tables and chairs for our meetings, Tech Nights, Field Day, Nearfest, and other special events NARS might get involved with.

Remember, NARS did not get selected to be the Dayton Hamvention Club of the Year for 2019 for doing nothing.  A small number of people got us there, and to them, I say a big, THANK YOU!

Do not forget the word T.E.A.M.  Remember what the letters stand for: “Together Everyone Achieves More”.

Three words should jump right out at you:

Everyone Achieves More

Think about that for a moment.  So if you will help a little, it will help a lot.  Members, will you volunteer and lend a hand or two?

Remember, “It’s better to be looked UP to than Down upon”.

Thanks for your help in advance.

 73 s,

John Halbert, W1SMN
