R2D2's Parents

It's not very well known but George Lucas' inspiration for R2D2 came from these World War II vintage field ranges. That's the proud papa, R1, on the left. Momma D1 is very prould of her son, but wishes "He'd cut out that darn whistling popping thing he does with his teeth.".
