Minutes from the March 30th Executive
Board meeting and the April 5th Club Meeting

March 30th Bored meeting

Attending the March Board meeting were Mike Graham, K7CTW, Chris Garon, K1SI, Tracy Banks, N1WIR, Gary Chevalier, W1GRY, and Ed Deichler, K2TE. Ken McAlister, KE1GI was not in attendance.

President Mike Graham called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM. Secretary Chris, K1SI reported that there was no correspondence, and on a motion made by Mark, N1ZYZ and seconded by Tracy, N1WIR, the previous months Board minutes were accepted as published in the March newsletter.

Treasurer Mark, N1ZYZ, reported that the current balance of the club account was $2870.28. The Treasurers report was accepted as read on a motion made by Chris, K1SI, and seconded by Ed, K2TE.

Under training, Ed, K2TE, reported that he has several people who are interested in taking the course, and he would like to get the course started soon. Ed stated that he is having some difficulty finding an instructor for the course and is still looking.

Programs director, Gary, W1GRY, confirmed that Don Hornbeck, K1EER, would make his presentation on power supplies at the April meeting. Gary noted that the May meeting presenter will be Ray Faucher, KB1SO, and for June the usual topic of Field Day. The July topic is slated a video of past Field Days. For the August meeting, Colleen Gaffey, N1HAJ is will do a presentation on the QSL bureau.

Under Old Business is the matter of Programs Chairman, Ken McAlister, KE1GI. Due to recent changes in Ken’s personal life he will be unable to remain an active member of the Board of Directors. Ken said he will be relocating. Ken has been an active member of the club for over a decade and it was with deep regret that he must resign. Ken’s resignation was accepted on a motion made by Chris, K1SI, and seconded by Mark, N1ZYZ. Ken will return the T-Shirts and get all club material into the proper hands. The vacancy will be addressed at the April club meeting and nominations will be taken at that time.

Next under Old Business was the matter of non-budgeted funds for a donation to the NHARA, to sponsor a Plaque for the NH QSO Party. We have sponsored this cause in the past, and apparently overlooked it for the current budget. This matter will be brought before the membership to determine whether or not to allocate the funds.

Under New Business, Steve Uurtamo, WA4LDL, was in attendance to formally request support for the Explorer Post, which he is leading at Sanders, A Lockheed Martin Company. The post is a “Technical and Engineering” post and will specifically target computers and communications. The age range is from 14 to 20 and the kids will be coming from as far east as Portsmouth, and as far west as Peterborough. As part of the communications aspect of the program a Technician license course will be given. The course will be offered to NARC students as well, and will be held at Sanders. Steve is looking for instruction help as well as Elmers to assist him with the class. If interested see Tracy, N1WIR.

Also discussed was Classy Junque. The drawing is getting out of hand and taking too much time. Some guidelines regarding number of drawings and other details for Classy Junque will be made at the meeting.

Mark, N1ZYZ, noted that due to job changes he may not be able to devote as much time to GOTAP as he would like. Mark will ask for a replacement at the next meeting, but has agreed to continue his GOTAP activities in whatever capacity he is able.

On a motion made by Mark, N1ZYZ, and seconded by Chris, K1SI, the meeting was adjourned at 8:26 PM.

April 5th Club meeting

The April meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club was opened by President Mike Graham, K7CTW, at 7:03 PM and introductions were made at that time.

Following introductions, Mike addressed the matter of the “Classy Junque” drawings. In an effort to speed the drawings up, that a few basic guidelines be followed. It was asked that only your own name be entered, a limit of five drawings per meeting be made, and that leftover items be removed from the library by whomever brought them. The winners were Dan, NW1C, Darryl, N1YDJ, Gary, W1GRY, and Keith Beihl.

Programs coordinator, Gary Chevalier, W1GRY, introduced Don Hornbeck, K1EER, and Don gave his presentation on “The Evolution of Power Supplies” and “State of the Art Power Supplies”.

On a motion made by Don Grant, N1UBD, and seconded by Matthew Wagner, N1ZYY, the Secretary’s report from the previous month was accepted.

Membership coordinator, Tracy Banks, N1WIR, reported that as of April 5, there are 173 members in good standing.

Under Training, Ed Deichler, K2TE, reported that students will be able to participate in an Explorer sponsored Technician class run by Steve Uurtamo, WA4LDL, with some “Elmer” assistance from the club, at Sanders on Canal St. The course will be 6-8 weeks long, from 6:30-9 PM on Tuesdays, and will tentatively start on April 13. The resignation of Ken, KE1GI, was announced and the floor was opened for nominations. Joy Grant was nominated. On a motion made by Jim, WW1Y, seconded by Don, KA1GOZ, nominations were closed. An election will be held at the next meeting.

In the matter of the $50.00 donation to NHARA for a NH QSO Party plaque, it was agreed that the donation be made. Funding will be taken from the discretionary budget.

Mark, N1ZYZ, announced that he is seeking a GOTAP replacement but will continue to serve until a replacement is found.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jim, WW1Y, the meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM.
