Field Day Meeting

Hello Everyone! It's time to start serious planning for Field Day 98. Field day is NEXT MONTH! We need people to make firm commitments now. If you can't make a firm commitment, but still want to help we need to know that as well. It takes a lot of planning to pull this off. Don't treat it like income tax and wait till the last minute…

Some decisions have already been made: This year we are going to use the new club callsign of N1FD. After getting the highest score three years running we're entitled to shout Number 1 Field Day! We will also not be running battery this year. Once again, maximizing fun takes priority.

Changes to the field day rules separate CW from the other digital modes. That means we can have a CW, a phone, and a RTTY/Packet/Amtor station on each band! We haven't worked out all the logistics yet, but we'd like to see one RTTY station on the air, at least part time. If you want to be a RTTY station master let me know.

So far we are only 7A!

Pretty pathetic for a club that's been in the 20's for three years. Volunteer to be a station master! It's not hard. It's a lot of fun. And there's plenty of people around to help you if it's your first time.

We are also thinking about not putting up tower #2 and making Tower #1 100 feet or taller! We also need people to set up, climb, and tear down. Without setup crew we don't have field day at all! Sterling, AK1K, will be holding tower school this year on June 6th at 9 AM. If you've never climbed a tower before and think you might enjoy it, or if you just want a refresher on what to do, and how to do it safely, mark this in your calendar! If you are under 18 and want to climb, you MUST go to tower school. You also need permission from your parents.

Check out the 98 Field Day web pages at http://www.n1fd.org/fd98 for the latest Info.

And looking forward to 1999, there's a Field Day site committee looking for a site for next year. If anyone knows of a location that is big enough (about 25 acres) contact Henry K1CII, Ken, KE1GI, or myself .
