Tally Ho! To the hunt!

For those interested in fox hunting, join us at the annual NARC picnic. The hunt will start at noon and continue until someone finds my HT (or until everyone gives up and goes home). This will be a walking hunt. For those of you unfamiliar with fox-hunts, they are hidden transmitter searches. This is the perfect way hone your Direction Finding skills. If you have no prior DF experience, check http://members.aol.com/homingin. That’s Joe Moell, K0OV’s Radio Direction Finding Home page. It will lead to all sorts of useful online references. Or get “Transmitter Hunting, Radio Direction Finding Simplified” by Joe Moell, K0OV and Thomas Curlee, WB6UUZ. You can get it mail order from the ARRL or pick it up Ham Radio Outlet. There is also a new chapter on RDF in the latest ARRL Handbook. Or you can ask one of our resident experts on the 147.045/224.28 repeater. My HT will be hidden somewhere along Ridge Road and will be on a 2M frequency. After the hunt we will have our annual picnic at the Ridge Road Field Day site. Some left over hot dogs and hamburgs from field day will be available, however, please bring a pot luck dish as well for all to share. The event is scheduled for Saturday September 13th, 12 Noon, rain date Sunday.
