The Secretary's ReportMinutes from the February 24th ExecutiveBoard meeting and the March 3rd Club Meeting

He updated members on the recent NHARA meeting including the club’s participation in the NH QSO party, “affinity” license plates, presentation of the 8-Ball Award, Radio ROTC leadership training, and the Little LEO proposal to now include 222 MHz.
A motion by Ed, K2TE, seconded by Chris, K1SI, accepted the published secretary’s report. Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a club balance of $2,461.13. A motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, accepted the presented report.
Ed, K2TE, membership coordinator, reported that as of February 20 there were 107 club members. During the past month there were six renewals and 2 new members. Chris, K1SI, activities coordinator, reported there was no further code practice planned.
Jack, WB4MDC, programs coordinator, reported that the April program will be Mike, NE1V, who will discuss silicon crystal manufacturing done by Ferrofluidics.
Chris, K1SI, activities coordinator, submitted his resignation as a member of the board of directors effective immediately due to a job relocation. On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, K1SI’s resignation was accepted with regret and he was thanked for his past services to the club. With the resignation of Chris, president John noted that a special election will have to be held at the March club meeting to fill the vacancy.
Sale of the club radio equipment was again discussed, and Jack, moved, Chris seconded, a motion that the club make available for sale the SB102 at the best reasonable offer.
On a motion by Chris, seconded by George, the meeting was adjourned.
Following introductions of members, Jack, WB4MDC, program coordinator, introduced Ken Garabrant, Western District Safety Director of Public Service of New Hampshire for a program on electrical safety and installing generators in the home.
Following the presentation, president John called the business meeting to order.
Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported a club balance of $2,338. Ed, K2TE, membership coordinator reported there were 107 club members, 11 members had expired, there were three renewals and one new member.
Chris, K1SI, former activities coordinator, reported he still had some 1996 Field Day T- shirts available and they would be turned over to his successor.
Jack, WB4MDC, announced the April club meeting program will be Mike, NE1V.
President John, WS1E, discussed the recent NHARA meeting in Concord, noting the club’s log for the NH QSO party had been submitted at that meeting. John also noted there had been little progress in finding an alternate site for the storage of the club’s Field Day equipment.
He noted that Don, KA1T, New England director of vice for the ARRL, wants some feedback on the WARC proposal for amateur licensing structuring. John asked NH Section Manager N1FIK, Al, to discuss the state’s affinity license plate program in which amateur radio plans to participate. John also noted that at the NHARA meeting a program of leadership training for new and potential club officers was being developed.
President John announced that a special election would be held to replace Chris, K1SI, activities coordinator. He called for nominations from the floor. Jim, WW1Y, nominated Brooks Tanner, KC1PD, to fill the vacated post, seconded by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ. Rich, W1HZN moved nominations be closed, seconded by Ken, KE1GI. The motion carried. Rich, W1HZN, moved that the secretary be directed to cast one ballot for Brooks Tanner for activities coordinator, seconded by Henry, K1CII. The motion carried and one ballot was cast for activities coordinator. Brooks Tanner was duly elected.
Secretary Don, KA1GOZ, noted he had received a memo from Bud Johnson, K1HGK, a former club member, requesting assistance in setting up a 2-meter QSO with the Space Shuttle on May 20. The QSO is to take place at the Hellenic School in Lowell, Mass. The contact person is Terry Karangioze, a teacher, who can be reached at 508-453-5422, the school; or 508-454-5154, home. Bob Steere, who ran a 1994 contact with Charlie Precourt, who will be the commander on this flight as well, is available for consultation at 508-562-5689, home; or 617-727-2310, ext. 3071, work. Steere contacted Johnson, who sent the memo to the club. Johnson can be reached at 888-1418.
In other announcements, Jim, WW1Y noted the next local VE session would be April 17 at the Pleasant Street School in Salem. He also noted that the club Web page contains a ballot for deciding what callsign should be used for 1997 Field Day.
