Minutes from the October 28th Executive
Board meeting and the November 4th Club Meeting

October 28th Bored meeting

President John, WS1E, opened the October meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club board of directors at 7:34 PM.

The treasurer, George, WA1DEI, had not arrived so presentation of the proposed budget for 1997 was delayed.

Gene, WA1UXA moved to accept the budget as presented. The motion died for lack of a second.

Henry, K1CII, moved that the secretary’s report be accepted as published in the newsletter. Don, seconded. The motion carried with Gene opposed.

Membership coordinator Henry reported 103 paid members, with a total of 128 including family members. A total of 17 memberships had expired. President John requested a list of expired or soon to expire memberships be generated for review.

Activities Coordinator Gene reported plans were underway for the club Christmas party Dec. 7 at the Horsepond Fish and Game Club beginning at 7 PM. Tickets will be available at the November club meeting.

President of vice, Fletch, N1MEO, reported there had been no further progress in setting up a novice/technician course.

President John noted that at the NH Amateur Radio Association meeting he had been advised by the Section Affiliated Club Coordinator that this clubs Special Service Club application had been forwarded on.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, arrived and gave an incomplete treasurer’s report since all of the figures were not immediately available. The cash balance was $1,651.34 with an estimated $150 in the Bulk Mail account. Gene moved the report be accepted as read. Motion died for lack of a second.

President John then brought up the subject of club patches, noting the NHARA had produced a patch as well as a NHARES patch. The source will be investigated. Field Day results are in and he suggested another T-shirt in a different color should be produced. He would prepare artwork for the November club meeting.

He reported there was no new word on changing the club callsign, and in the absence of Program Coordinator Joel, KD1ON, he could report that he, John, would be making the presentation at the November club meeting on the FCC RF safety rules and orders.

Rich, W1HZN, chairman of the nominating committee presented a slate of nominees for election at the December club meeting. Nominees include: John, WS1E, president; Bob, KD1AW, vice president; Don, KA1GOZ, secretary; George, WA1DEI, treasurer; Mike, NE1V, and Jack, WB4MDC, programs; Chris, KA1SIE, and Brooks, KC1PD, activities; and Ed, K2TE, membership. Gene moved and Henry seconded a motion to thank the nominating committee of Rich, W1HZN; Rex, K1HI and Ernie, NO1V, for their work. The motion carried.

President John brought before the board a proposal to sell the club-owned radio equipment and purchase more modern equipment.

Henry moved to convert the club owned radio equipment to cash. Gene seconded, and after a series of amendments, counter amendments, and considerable discussion, the entire motion, amendments and all, was withdrawn. Henry then moved that the club investigate upgrading the club radio inventory by disposing of the current radios and acquiring two all-solid-state HF transceivers. Fletch seconded and the motion carried. Treasurer George presented the proposed budget, and after some discussion, it was moved by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Fletch, N1MEO, to recommend to the club adoption of the budget as proposed. The motion carried.

Henry moved the board go into executive session to discuss personnel matters. Fletch seconded. The motion carried.

Don moved to adjourn, all seconded and the motion carried.

November 4th Club

President John, WS1E, opened the November meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club with the traditional Classie Junque drawing. The dubious winners were: Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, Joe, N1XVX, John, KA1HOV, Al, N1FIK, Fletch, N1MEO, Rex, K1HI, Paul, W1GOF, Dave, N1SUE, Don, N1UBD, and Bill, N1VPA.

Following introductions, president John presented a program on the new FCC rules concerning RF safety.

At the conclusion of his presentation he opened the business portion of the meeting. Jim, WW1Y, moved to accept the secretary’s report as published in the newsletter, Don, KA1T, seconded. The motion carried.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported $1,161.34 in the club account; $23.50 in petty cash; and $165.17 in the Permit 113 Bulk Mail account for a total of $1,846.01. Mary Jane, WA4WIJ moved the treasurer’s report be accepted as presented. Jim, WW1Y, seconded and the motion carried.

Membership coordinator Henry, K1CII, reported a membership of 117 with 4 renewals.

Activities coordinator Gene, WA1UXA, reminded all of the Christmas party Dec. 7 at the Horsepond Fish and Game Club beginning at 7 p.m., adding it was going to be a potluck supper.

In the absence of programs coordinator Joel, KD1ON, president John noted the program for December was to include the traditional awards night as well as elections. January’s program would be “Project Night.”

President of vice, Fletch, N1MEO, had no new information concerning training.

President John reported that the FCC has yet to begin processing the Gate 2 callsigns and it was unknown when it would begin. Processing was delayed due to computer problems.

On the issue of Field Day, in which NARC, for the second successive year took first place overall, a new T-shirt design was proposed. The color of the new T-shirt, by acclamation will be Red! A T-shirt committee, Mary Jane, WA4WIJ; Chris, KA1SIE; George, WA1DEI; and Fletch, N1MEO, will coordinate the project.

Al (Bunkie) Shuman, N1FIK, NH Section Manager, noted that the NH Amateur Radio Association has produced some NHARA patches which are for sale along with hats Secretary’s Report - continued on page 7 Secretary’s Report - continued from page 6 with the patches already attached. Al then proceeded to present the Section Manager’s Field Day Award to Jim, WW1Y, in the absence of 1996 Field Day Coordinator, Al, WA1TYB.

Following the presentation, treasurer George, WA1DEI, presented the proposed budget. Jim, WW1Y,moved the budget be accepted as presented. Source of the second was unknown, and the budget was accepted.

Rich, W1HZN, chairman of the nominating committee, presented the proposed slate of candidates for election to the board of directors. Refer to the board minutes for the list of candidates. The floor was opened for additional nominations. Rich, W1HZN, moved nominations be closed, seconded by John, KA1HOV. The motion carried with Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, opposed.

John, KA1HOV, reported that member Frank Sweich, N1DGQ, had fallen from a ladder at his mother’s home, fracturing several ribs, and was recuperating.

President John commented on the board’s proposal to sell the club-owned radio equipment and purchase more modern equipment.

Don, KA1GOZ, reported that a RACES training session was being planned for the area including Western Hillsborough County, and anyone interested should contact him.

Jim, WW1Y, announced the next VE session. He then moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Pauline, KA1LDF. The motion carried.
