Minutes from the September 30th Executive
Board meeting and the October 7th Club Meeting

September 30th Bored meeting

President John, WS1E, opened the September meeting of the bored of directors of the Nashua Area Radio Club at 7:33 PM with a report on the application for a new club callsign. He reported that an application had been submitted electronically to the FCC with a list of 24 potential choices. He said response to the application will not be expected for as much as four weeks.

On a motion by Henry, K1CII, membership director, seconded by vice president Fletch, N1MEO, reading of the previous minutes were dispensed with as they were published in the newsletter. The motion carried.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI, informed the bored that a full report would be presented at the October club meeting.

President John, regarding the costs of mailing the newsletter, noted he had received email from Jim, WW1Y, concerning the feasibility of continuing to use bulk mail for the newsletter. John said the issue of bulk mail will be revisited.

Henry reported there were 3 new members this month and there were also 3 renewals.

Fletch reported that Mike, NE1V, will begin a technician course at the end of October. He also reported he was continuing to look for alternative sites for Field Day, but noted that the current site is available at least through next year.

John, WS1E, noted that a budget will have to be prepared for presentation at the November meeting. In addition he said he will appoint a nominating committee to present a slate of officers for next year. Don, KA1GOZ, moved to adjourn , Fletch seconded and the motion carried.

October 7th Club meeting

The October meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club opened with the traditional Classie Junque drawing. Winners included: Ken,WA1DXO; Don,KA1GOZ; Gary, K8LT; Joel,KD1ON; Diana,KA1TOQ; Jack, WB4MDC; Jan, N1LBA; and Stu, W1ZUB.

Following introductions, Joel, KD1ON, introduced Ken Wickwire, KB1JY, of the Mitre Corporation, who presented a program on HF digital modes - Packet, G-Tor, AMTOR, PACTOR, Clover, and the rest.

After the presentation, John, WS1E, opened the business portion of the meeting by announcing club members who were ARRL life members were required to cough up the annual $2 assessment to the club coffers.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Joel, KD1ON, the secretary’s report of the previous meeting was accepted as published in the newsletter.

Treasurer George, WA1DEI reported the club balance stood at $1,886.61. Pauline, KA1LDF moved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Henry, K1CII seconded and the motion carried.

Henry, membership director, reported that the club membership stands at 117.

Discussion of the club Christmas party began in the absence of the activities director. On a motion by Rich, W1HZN, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, the meal for the Christmas party will be “pot luck.” The motion carried with Jack, WB4MDC, opposed.

Joel, KD1ON, program director, reported that the program for November, in addition to the nomination of candidates and the budget will be a “surprise.”

Fletch, N1MEO, president of vice and training coordinator, reported that Mike, NE1V, will teach a no-code technician course beginning late this month.

President John then provided an update on Donna Rothberg, wife of former New England Division Vice director, Warren Rothberg, noting she was out of the hospital and was undergoing rehabilitation for injuries due to an automobile accident.

John also announced he had submitted an application for change of callsign for the club station as station trustee. He said is will be several weeks before anything will be done by the FCC on the application which includes some 24 possible callsign choices.

He also noted that data on the FCC’s RF radiation standards had been published in QST under “Strays.”

Don, KA1T, New England Division director of vice, noted FCC bulletins and updates were available on the commission’s web page and by links from the ARRL web page.

John, WS1E announced that he and Don, KA1GOZ, were planning to attend the next NHARA meeting in Bow on Oct. 19.

Don, KA1T, noted that ballots for the New England Division director and Vice director had been mailed to all division ARRL members. He urged those who received ballots to return them as soon as possible.

Dave, N1FCC, and N1CRZ noted they both will be participating in Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) later this month. Dave will be at the Hollis Congregation Church, while N1CRZ will be at a camp out in Windham.

On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by MaryJane, WA4WIJ, the meeting was adjourned. Dave, N1FCC, was opposed.
