WA1OMM Appears in Premier Issue of
CQ VHF Magazine

You can imagine my surprise when I started receiving email messages back in mid- December asking for my “expert” advice on setting up Windows 95 for use with amateur satellite ground stations. One request even asked me to send “all the information I had” about setting up a PBBS to link to a satellite. Although I had recently posted an ad on the Internet to sell a set of AZ-EL rotors, I couldn’t believe that the ad (which prompted no less than 32 responses) was responsible for the recent wave of solicitations.

The answer to the mystery came on Christmas Eve when I received an email from Bill Bordy, NJ1H. Bill had received a copy of CQ VHF magazine at the annual NARC Christmas party. The premier issue of CQ VHF had just hit the newsstands and one of the featured articles by Barry Baines, WD4ASW was entitled, “Easy Pacsat Access Via Digital Satellite Gateways.” An email message I had sent to Chris Jackson, G7UPN via Kitsat-A back in August had been reprinted in its entirety on page 24 as part of the article - and not just as a sidebar! The three-quarter page reproduction of my email message also contained my Internet email address. Needless to say the message talked about my success with running Chris’s popular WiSP program under Windows 95. Hence the sudden rush of email messages and brief encounter with notoriety!

73, Paul WA1OMM
