Terrain Assessment
I hope you all enjoyed the August meeting. For those of you who were unable to attend the meeting (such as N1BAO, WA1UXA, etc.), Doug Grant (K1DG) gave a very interesting overview of the "World Radiosport" contest. This contest was held in 1990 and coincided with the Goodwill games. Twenty-two teams, from sixteen different countries were chosen to compete in the ten hour contest. Making over 1500 contacts in the ten hour contest period, Doug and his teammate John Dorr (K1AR) won the contest. Nice job guys! I did not see him there, but rumor has it that Doug made a few Q's at our Field Day this year, and with a track record like his he is more than welcome to come back anytime! Thanks Doug!

Coming in September is Dean Straw (N6BV). Dean is the editor of the latest ARRL Antenna Handbook. If you want to put up an HF antenna, but just don't know where or how to configure it for optimum performance, this meeting's for you. One of the topics that Dean will touch base on is terrain assessment. We could use a guy like this during Field Day set-up! Don't miss this meeting if you plan to put up an antenna of any kind in the near future. Due to changes in my work schedule, as of this month I will no longer be in charge of training. Any questions regarding training should now be directed to Fletch Seagroves (N1MEO).

Don't forget that you can buy ARRL publications through the radio club. I will have an assortment of books at each meeting available for sale. If I do not have what you're looking for, let me know and I will have it at the next club meeting. Most books are priced below the ARRL cover price. Buying your books through the club will earn the club some extra money, while you save some.
