I picked up one of the MikroTik hAP ac2 routers and just came in; hoping to get AREDN’s firmware flashed and then also try to connect up. I do need to figure out network segregation strategy a bit as my network is in the 10.0.0.0 subnet; so need to make sure I don’t collide.

Thank you for the tech night slides! I usually have the kids so it’s hard, but hoping to be joining a Zoom to watch/interact soon 🙂

My home lab is very humble compared to yours, but a large k8s cluster, small proxmox cluster, Home Assistant for home automation, sso with Authentik (for openID and ldap auth), similar tools looks like too with Uptime Kuma, and other things. Build pipelines from Gitea->Jenkins->docker registry, etc. Helps me learn and keep fresh for work/career.

My home network saturated my /24 , so been migrating to a /16 so I can separate certain things easier and better deal with adding additional services without having to juggle addressing…

Recently been getting into mesh network, packet again, experimenting with mesh networking (learning from the FARPN team on their Matrix instance https://wiki.farpn.net/) . However was big into APRS for many years.

In addition to Meshtastic and Meshcore, recently been experimenting with Reticulum for encrypted mesh networking… not ham friendly but fascinating. FARPN has been experimenting with it to connect links over the network. Network agnostic meshing and communication. Very easy to set up links via LoRa/Wifi/Lan/WAN, etc, and can go from just 11-12bit/s to multi-gigabits.

Looks like still hard to do LoS… but we can definitely try for sure as possible with a bit of terrain bouncing I can hit you. Your location, especially if PoE or 5v up the tower is possible, would make an amazing location for Meshtastic/Meshcore/Reticulum/HaLow. I’d absolutely love to talk Meshtastic linking….

Where abouts in Westford? I can hit the WB1GOF repeater with low power direct on 2m as it’s on the water tower, so depending on location, 900mhz may work. However there is a big hill system around me that gives me challenges. But the fun part is finding solutions 🙂

I am definitely interested in setting up a tunnel router as well!

I can’t this weekend due to having the kids, but home lab/networking is my work area. Some girls like to knit to relax, I love soldering, networking and learning. I can help out later next week if there’s some further help needed.

Lost my original post for some reason 🙁 Trying again so sorry if a bit scattered.

I have been working with NHMesh.com / NHMesh.live for a bit helping with Meshtastic and Meshcore connections, which is a similar analogue (but digital haha.) Connecting MA to NH, ME and even CT.

Obviously at 900mhz, terrain and foliage make a big difference. A lot of the Meshtastic for example we’ve had to set up a lot of routers on high hills like Bear Hill, Westford, MA, Jeremy Hill in Hudson, NH, and even Mt. Kearsarge. Over the summer I was able to go from my house, to Bear Hill, Westford, MA direct to someone on Mt. Wachusett at 120mw for Meshtastic.

I’ve been helping to build solar nodes; LTO batteries are my new favorite for safety reasons, and can charge/discharge at below 0F temperatures. I was running numbers this week about possibly getting one of those Heltec HaLow nodes offigrid solar, and I think it’s VERY possible with a couple of 45ah LTO batteries, and a 35w+ panel.

I’d love to help out with this and report back to the group.  You may be a bit far for me as a couple of good hills in the way between you and I.

                    Hi Fred!!

                    I ordered:

                    • 1x HaLowLink 1 MM-HL1-EXT
                    • 2x Heltec HT-HD01 devices

Looks like they are on the supported list with the Babel Nightly builds so excited to try it out.

Depending on timing, and if I have work or the kids, I’d love to go and help!

I hadn’t heard of AREDN before and looks really interesting.

Just found this old post from a year ago 🙂  Recently got involved in Meshtastic and have a few nodes up. The NHMesh group has been coordinating both Meshtastic, Meshcore and a bit of Reticulum.
