Thanks Anita…found it…
I had filled in my call sign on the spreadsheet above but when I just checked it looks like the whole sheet is empty.
Just want to know if this was cancelled for next week.
Thanks,
Anthony/KC1DXLDecember 5, 2023 at 8:09 pm in reply to: Looking for a directional Antenna to add to my Antennas for 6m-40 or 80m #155242Thanks Mike and Rick…I will check out the antenna that you listed.
Ok, thanks Fred…I thought that the DXE kit was the one that you had and I think it does come with more dies. The HRO one seems to have the 2 types of cable that I already have LMR400 and RG8X but I might go ahead and splurge for the DXE one.
I don’t have a whole lot of cables that I need to make now but I am thinking of adding some more wire antenna’s so might need to make a few more which is why I was trying to save the money but perhaps its just a case of being penny wise and pound foolish.
I’m going to probably be at HRO today so might check it out anyway and see if I can get the powerpoll dies which DXE has and HRO one doesn’t.
Thanks,
Anthony/KC1DXL
Thanks Martin…yah, I hadn’t considered metal for a number of reasons the most important that we get a lot of electrical storms and I am planning on mounting this on my house so really don’t want a lightning rod that close.
I looked at your Flag Pole vertical project and it looks interesting but I think I need to be at 32 ft so 25′ may not be tall enough. I did try using some elements and put it up at 20′ and the SWR was pretty bad. I hadn’t thought to search for fiberglass sections and the search for mast on DXEngineering didn’t give the same thing.
Wondering if this from DX Engineering might serve my needs:
https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-tfk46-hd
It says its: “DX Engineering DXE-TFK46-HD – DX Engineering Complete Fiberglass Tubing and Cam Lock Clamp Kits” Cost is $239 and they actually have them in stock. I probably would not raise it much over 30′ and even at that would need to guy it so it doesn’t fall over.
I actually wasn’t that concerned about loading because it will be mounted on the side of my house and I was thinking that the wind load for the antenna and the post isn’t that much, but I suppose I should do the analysis.
Yes, definitely thought I would need a cap on the Antenna to keep water out and perhaps some drain holes at the bottom to keep the mast from filling with water.
I would love to put some kind of a tower up, but I have something harder to work out than an HOA, my wife is dead set against it. 🙂 .
Plus I’m thinking it would be prohibitively expensive to put up a tower at this point.
Thanks for the advice its really helpful. Have a nice day.

Is there a sheet to sign up for operating times for WFD, I couldn’t find a pointer in the forums or search?
Thanks, Tony/KC1DXL
Thanks Mike…no didn’t use EZNEC…the copy that I have claims it has a virus and it won’t install. Perhaps I should do that as well, just figured a wire antenna was simple enough that the length and height were the most important things and I could trim it by tuning it with the Antenna Analyzer, perhaps I am nieve then.
I will see if I can get a copy of EZNEC and see what it says.
Thanks,
Tony/KC1DXL
Thanks Fred…I will try what you suggest…Just to clarify on the Antenna analyzer I set the center frequency for the test to 3.795 since I will be using it for SSB only right now and see what the SWR is through the center frequencey then.
The SWR is actually lower at the high ends of the band so I guess thats where I want it to be, so might be the correct length for SSB.
Tony
KC1DXL, I worked K2K. Thanks for all you did for 13 Colonies.
June 9, 2018 at 6:28 am in reply to: Need someone to set up and take down the signs for Field Day #44673Thanks Fred…I will try to make the meeting on Monday (its at the Library, correct?) but we might have a deployment in one of our plants so might be occupied depending on how things goes.
Have fun at the SOTA activation today.
