On Thursday, November 13, we held our first meeting for the upcoming 2026 Winter Field Day. We went over last year’s Winter Field Day and what’s new for 2026. The primary objectives of the Winter Field Day Association are for HAMs to practice setting up field stations and making contacts.

Dates for related activities

• Tuesday, December 2nd Membership Meeting (7 pm) – Operating Techniques presentation (Fred to take the lead, Jack to chime in on press)
• Saturday, December 20th (9 am) – WFD Station and portable antenna setup and test at AB1OC (Everyone is welcome, Brian and Jack to bring portable antennas)
• The target is to have Rover operators (can be Technician Class operators) attend this session so we can test the Rover operating stations and scenarios.
• Tuesday, January 13th, Tech Night (7 pm) – WFD Tech Night (Brian has the lead).
• Saturday, January 10th (9 am) – Attempt to work a DXCC as N1FD in a day (Jack and Fred to take the lead, everyone is welcome).
• Final operating setup TBD – will either be two or three Tx at the highest power level we can make work (hopefully 100W) or one Tx at QRO 1500.
• We’ll have Sats and Winlink available to play with as well
• Saturday, January 17th (9 am) – N1FD WFD Ops enter the North American QSO Party contest from AB1OC.
• The contest starts at 1 pm EST and goes to 1 am EST the following morning.
• We’ll do some practice operating before the contest begins, and help everyone get oriented to using the station.
Details and scheduling to follow (Brian and Anita).
• Friday, January 23rd (9 am) – Final WFD setup at AB1OC (Brian and Jack bring antennas, we’ll need help with Station and SW Testing as well).
• January 23rd, at 11 AM, we will do our setup of the antennas and any final testing of the system.

On January 24th at 11 AM, we will start the Winter Field Day event. It runs for 30 hours, ending on the 25th at 4 PM. We need all Amateur License Class Operators.

We went over the results from last year. We pointed out that the Multipliers were critical for making a large number of points, not just for making a large number of QSOs. See the presentation below.

This year, one of the new objectives is to work on 12 bands. We are trying to determine the necessary hardware to accomplish this. We will need help from our technician class operators to achieve this. We will have a coach to help you. It’s worth a 6 multiplier.

Please see the presentation below

73,
