Winter Field Day is only three weeks away. January 27 & 28. We plan to have it at the residence of Brian Quick W1XMM. He has a nice station and can accommodate up to 4 stations. It really depends on how many members would like to attend. That said, we would really like and encourage everyone to please sign up as early as possible. This is not just limited to operators, but also if you would like to see Brian’s station and how it is set up. Because this is in a residence, we are not going be doing overnight operations.
The setup; the main operating station is a SteppIR DB-18, which is a 3-element beam that is capable of 40M through 6M on a rotor. This feeds an Elecraft K3s. A secondary station is another SetppIR but this one is vertical and is capable of 80M to 6M and hooked up to a Yaesu FT991a. A third station would be a 50MHZ to 1.2GHz Log periodic that is mounded on a rotor; it is currently hooked up to a 2M and 70cm radio, but it could be another radio. A fourth station could be hooked up to an 80M/160M inverted Vee antenna. It all depends on how many operators we can get signed up.
We have been challenged by the ARES group to also set up an NVIS antenna and communicate with other ARES operators at set times. This would be both VHF/UHF and HF. The ARES is going to use this opportunity to test their communication skills here in New England.
The rules for this Winter Field Day are simple:
- All stations are limited to a maximum of 100 Watts PEP
- QRP CW limit of 5 watts multiplier of 2
- QRP Phone limit of 10 watts multiplier of 2
- Each mode worked on each band counts as 1 multiplier
For example, if we work
- CW, Phone, Digital on 160M, 80M, 40M, 20M, 15M, 10M
That’s a multiplier of 18 for every contact made.
