I am frustrated with my Windows 10 computer. The startup takes 10-12 minutes before logging in. I would really like to meet up with someone who knows anything about Widows 10. If I fix it, it’ll never work. NEED YOUR HELP! Contact direct: [email protected]. Dennis – K1LGQ
August 8, 2021 at 7:27 pm #133314Hello Dennis,
I’m available to help, I’m sure others will step up.
I will not tolerate W-10 taking more than 45s for a cold startup. Delays are often due to virus software, apps running in the background, and apps attempting to connect to the internet with broken links.
Insufficient memory, disk space, or a ancient processor can already lead to lengthy delays.

August 8, 2021 at 10:27 pm #133355Hi, Dennis.
Adding to Hamilton’s suggestions, what computer hardware is Windows 10 running on? My PC also used to be slow; I updated the computer hardware 5 years ago and now it goes from powered off to login screen in well under 30 seconds.

Dennis, how long have you had your Windows 10 computer?
Run Belarc Advisor [ https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor ] .
You may like what I will suggest.

Correction, you may NOT like what I will suggest.
I was having the same issue with a PC bought back in July for a new desk.
August 10, 2021 at 10:48 am #133431Other things to double check:
- When you turn off the computer, be sure to actually use “shutdown” on windows and not just cut the power in some way. It should take a few seconds and not just disappear from the screen. If you don’t do that, some things will not have been written to the disk, and Windows will have to re-created them on reboot.
- Last time Windows took forever, it was because it was updating. Usually it will tell you it is, but for mine, it did not say so for some time.
Unfortunately, I’m not very good at Windows stuff. I usually use a Mac or Linux for most things, but that also means that my Windows machine is not booted very often and often has a lot of these problems.

Dennis, how is Windows 10 running now?
August 24, 2021 at 8:15 am #135268Not yet. Need to call Charter/Spectrum, but working on it. Still need to go thru web site. Better than it was!
August 28, 2021 at 11:40 pm #135378Hello Thomas,
You asked how old is the PC, and how it’s running now.
The PC used Windows 8 when first released so it isn’t very old.
It had a very large GB file on the desktop on a slow HDD causing a long startup. Dennis and I did a fresh Windows 10 install on a .5TB SSD and moved some files off the desktop onto a backup drive. Now a cold boot takes about 15 seconds…
