If you hold a Technician License you might be wondering – “What can I do at Field Day?”. All Nashua Area Radio Society Field Days are designed to provide lots of great learning experiences. This is especially true for folks who are recently licensed and/or hold a Technician Level Amateur Radio License. So what can you do? Well, first off, we will be putting together a very good 6m station at Field Day which will allow you to operate using SSB Voice or FT8 digital with your Tech License. Don’t know how to operate on 6m? No worries, experienced folks will be available to show you how at Field Day.
Computer-controlled Portable Satellite Ground StationWe will also have a portable, computer-controlled, satellite ground station for 2m and 70cm at Field Day as well. We’ll show you how to use it to make contacts through linear and FM satellites and help you learn to “work the birds”.

We will also have our Foxes (hidden transmitters) out and you can use your HT to track them down. We’ll be doing a training session on how to do Fox Hunting at 1 pm on Saturday, June 25th.
We’ll be doing an emergency message passing activity on 2m simplex. This is a great way to use your HT and learn how to pass emergency message traffic. Again, we’ll teach you how to do this at Field Day. Don’t have an HT? We’ll have some available at Field Day that you can use.

FT8 Digital Contacts on the 10m BandMaybe you’re interested in trying out the HF bands? We’ll have a 10m HF station where you can use your Technician License to make FT8 Digital and SSB Phone contacts. Experienced operators will be available to help you get started and have fun using the gear that we will have at Field Day.

State-of-the-Art Field Day StationOne of the best learning experiences that we have available at Field day for everyone including folks with a Technician License is to participate and learn how to build stations. You don’t need to worry if you haven’t put a station together yet or have limited experience do so, experience folks will be on your team that will show you how to do it. You’ll get to work with state-of-the-art radios, towers, and antennas in the process.
Putting up a 6m Yagi at Field DayAre you thinking about upgrading to a General or Extra Class License? Field Day is a great way to participate in and do activities that will help you to learn about HF bands, multi-transmitter stations, directional antennas, towers, new operating modes, and lots of other things which you’ll need to know to pass your General or Extra License exam.
