WANTED: Operators for The 13 Colonies Special Event

Ever wonder what it would be like to run a pileup? Want to get some operating experience and make a ton of US contacts in a few hours? We’ve got a great opportunity for you. Its called The 13 Colonies Special Event. It takes place during the July 4th week each year and Fred, AB1OC is the State Manager for NH for this event. All of the NH stations will be using the K2K Special Event callsign for the event. You can learn more about the event on the 13 Colonies Special Event website.

We’re looking to put together a NH team of operators this year. I’d like that team to include as many club members as possible. We’re looking for folks to operate SSB Phone, CW, and/or Digital modes. Operations will include all of the HF bands, 6m and possibly some 2m and 70cm weak signal operations as well. If you live in NH and have a directional antenna, or a good wire antenna and an amplifier and you hear well, you can participate from your home station. We will also have dedicated QRP operators again this year.

I am also going to open up our station to anyone in the club who wants to help with the NH 13 Colonies operation. We’ll provide training on the equipment involved as well as how to go about running a pileup.

If you’re a relatively new Ham, we can help you get started in the event as a digital operator. This is how Anita and I started with the event. Its a lot of fun and its much easier to manage than SSB Phone or CW.
