      Good Afternoon Everyone!

Due to some home repairs that will be followed by some landscaping I had to take down the mast that I used for my 2m/70cm antenna. I’ve been looking at options to temporarily put the antenna up until I can put the mast up again.

I have an idea but want a sanity check before I go ahead with it. I think it will work but it is entirely possible I have missed an obvious reason it won’t.

I’ve thrown a rope over a branch, tied it off to the base of the antenna with a half hitch at the top. I have a second rope also tied off at the base.My thought is that I can hoist the antenna up with one rope, secure it to the ground with the other with a bungie cord between the ground and the lower rope to allow for some give when the wind blows.

The end result will be that the antenna will be about 30 feet above ground level, 10-12′ from the branch and 15′ from the tree trunk.

Will this work for a few weeks or am I missing an obvious reason that this is a bad idea?

        <p style=”text-align: left;”>Hello Harry,</p>
I have had my 2m/70cm ground plane vertical (Diamond X-50a) suspended from a high branch for years. I’m up 45′.

The tip of a vertical is typically high Z so water soaked rope attached to the tip will be lossy. I used several 6″ strands of monofilament fishing line and nylon tie wraps to attach to the antenna. I have seen 3mm mastrand used.

          Hamilton,

Thanks for the advice ! We’re up using 3mm nylon cord and high strength fishing line. Transmit and receive have been fine.

          73,

          Harry, W1HMM
