As I acquire more ham gear I am looking for suggestions on shack layout plans for a small area. My gear inventory consists of a 100 watt transceiver, watt meter, MFJ antenna tuner, antenna analyzer, laptop, two 22 inch monitors, AC powered USB hub and miscellaneous items. My main concern is how close equipment can be without EMF interference.

        Hello Duane,

You might try entering “Shack” into the search box on our website to get some ideas on how to set up your shack.

Also, here’s a picture of Jamey, AC1DC’s setup that is a nice one.

The best sources for RFI/EMI in the shack are Grounding and Bonding for the Radio Amateur by Ward Silver, N0AX, available from ARRL, and K9YC.com, Jim Brown’s web site.

Bonding is NOT grounding, but critical for safety and surge protection.  Using ferrites properly helps to keep RFI out of the shack.  If you operate HF, both concepts are critical to your success!
