      FT8 QSO - WSJT-X 2.0

I recently got the following question about how to set up an IC-7300 to operate in FT8 mode –

      Your Comment or Question?
A while back, Fred put together an Icon IC-7300 guide for the best settings to use in operating the radio. I wonder if there is a plan to put together a similar guide for operating this radio in Digital mode specifically FT8?

There’s not really much you need to do with FT8 except to set your audio levels correctly. You should set your output audio so that WSJT-X reads about 30 DB when only noise (no signals) are present. You can do this either via windows sound app or via the menus in the radio. You also want to set the input levels to the radio such that you have full power with NO ALC INDICATION when transmitting. Again, you can set this via the windows sound app or via the menus on the radio.

Also, you should configure FT8 to put your radio in DIGU mode and use the “Fake It” option to control the radio’s VFO.

Perfect timing! FT8 is up next on my agenda. Thanks, Fred!
