Hi All,
I’m finally thinking of buying a crimping tool for LMR-400/RG8X. I was looking at the kit on dxengineering (DX Engineering DXE-UT-KIT-CRMP2) but its like $189.00 for the kit.
I am also looking at a kit at HRO(https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-013442) which is about $100 cheaper.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the HRO crimping tool and if the dxengineering one is worth the extra $100.
Thanks,

Hi Tony,
I don’t own the HRO toolkit but I do have the DXE one. I think the tools in the DXE kit might be a little better quality. Also, you might want to check the availability of dies for both to be sure they cover all of the coax cable and connector types that you want to work with.
Ok, thanks Fred…I thought that the DXE kit was the one that you had and I think it does come with more dies. The HRO one seems to have the 2 types of cable that I already have LMR400 and RG8X but I might go ahead and splurge for the DXE one.
I don’t have a whole lot of cables that I need to make now but I am thinking of adding some more wire antenna’s so might need to make a few more which is why I was trying to save the money but perhaps its just a case of being penny wise and pound foolish.
I’m going to probably be at HRO today so might check it out anyway and see if I can get the powerpoll dies which DXE has and HRO one doesn’t.
Thanks,
Anthony/KC1DXL
