Hello All,
I am setting up my first real rig. It just so happens I am going for a multiband mobile setup to try. I got the below for Christmas:
- TYT FT-9800D which is meant to be very similar to the Yeasu FT-8900
- A lido under-seat mount for the display and mic
- A Diamond CR8900A Quad-band antenna
- A Diamond K400S Hatchback mount
I am seeking any advice when assembling and testing this. I expect to need a DC harness (with fuse!) to get through the firewall and to the battery and some type of SWR meter. If the feedback is not too bad and I still have noise I expect to have to look into properly bonding all the metal surfaces in the car. Any advice on a reasonably good or great SWR meter for under $100? Anything I should do while I am in there like a fuse block perhaps? Any bumps in the road I should watch for?
Thanks,
Collin
Hi Collin,
Please take a look at this site

Alan’s site is the encyclopedia of mobile ham radio.
Also, there have been multiple tech nights/club presentations here, so you should be able to find them in the back catalog of club and tech night presentations on this site.
