I could use some help with ideas for locating an OCF diapole antenna up in some trees. I have a tree company coming in 10 days from now to take out a bunch of trees and want them to put up pulleys and rope for the Buckmaster OCF-7 while they are working up there. I think that I have the necessary hardware for this part of the task, but I have a short window if I need to get some other hardware. Ground rods are already in place and I plan on running cables thru a window (similar to the MFJ product but I’ll custom make this to fit).

Also, less critical but I’d like ideas for mounting the Diamond X50A, perhaps off the side of another tree? I will not put up any towers nor will I attach any antenna to the house.

So all of this can be done outside in a probable 30 minute visit. If someone knowledgeable of mounting dipoles in trees can offer to come over (Hudson), I’d greatly appreciate it.

Email to KC1HLU at ARRL dot net will work best.

      Thanks.

One thing to consider is having enough rope tied off at each end in order to lower the OCF all the way down to the ground for future maintenance.

I was glad I bought a 500′ spool (3/16″ Dacron Polyester), because I used 400′ of it to put my Buckmaster up between two tall trees with no center support.

Of course a lot of that rope is tied off at the bottom of those trees when the antenna is up in place. I’m hoping all the squirrels and chipmunks around here don’t develop a liking for it.

        Marv,

Good point. I have a 1000′ spool of 850-8 black/Kevlar paracord for the purpose.

          Hi Len,

I could come over and see what your antenna situation is and probably give you a few suggestions as to placement, pulley system, etc…

Call me at 303-587-0993 and we can work out a time we could get together. I’m retired so I am usually available until about 3 PM each day.

Thank you Jack. I’ll give you a call tomorrow morning. I’m also retired, so I’m sure that we can work out a time to look it all over.

Yes on the extra slack, pluis I screwed in large marine cleats to each tree at shoulder height to pull the dipole tight but leaving a ton of slack to lower it to where the insulator connects to the antenna.

Thanks to Jack for coming over and providing some valuable advice.

Thanks Rick, sounds like a good idea to tie up some slack on one side of the paracord and still use a bungee cord on it for dealing with wind gusts.

The bungee cord is a good idea but be sure to parallel it with longer but heavy Paracord if it breaks.
