      Prep for Field Day 2024

Happy May First, this means that there is only 7 more weeks until Field Day 2024.

This year the Team has decided to post the club as 4A.  That means that we are going to have 4 active radios on the air and that we are a club setting up in a public area.

So here is the plan so far, we will be at the Hudson Memorial school again this year.  We will have like last year a tent for 20M SSB, tent for 40M/10M SSB, tent for 80M/15M SSB, and finally a tent for 6M. The 6M is free and is available for all techs to participate in Field Day with.  What’s new this year is a tent for 10M/15M/20M/40M/80M CW.  This means setting up 2 full towers, and the biggest difference being SSB vs CW/Digital.  Why the separation? Band frequency control, all CW, FT8 FT4, RTTY, PSK are in the lower part of each band, where SSB is in the upper part of each band.   We won’t be stepping on each other this way.

Still plan to have the GOTA (Get On The Air) station, so make sure you plan to have your friends or family members come and make a contact.  Everyone will have a coach to assist them in making there contact, so no pressure.  We will be trying to have a new layout to try and make it possible for the GOTA station to be able to work on the same bands as the SSB tents.

This year we’re planning to get the public involved, by having them send RADIOGRAMS to their friends/family.  This is to show the public how HAM Radio Operators will be able to assist them is an actual emergency.  The club is also planning to have a class on the NTS system and how to send a RADIOGRAM.

We would really like to get more interest in Field Day.  Please mark the date on your calendar to ensure your participation, June 21 for setup, 22,23 for operations, your club needs your support.  In fact, this year we are going to ask the internet club member’s to participate in field day and in the club field of your submittal form put “Nashua Area Radio Society”.  This would include our local members who are unable to make the Field Day activities.  This would allow the club to count your contacts as part of the club’s overall score.

Lastly, we are going to publish the signup sheets early this year.  Go here to sign up for operation and were looking for who we can count on for setup and teardown:
