There will be an ISS Crew Contact taking place over the eastern United States on Thursday, December 5th beginning around 12:55 pm eastern time. The contact will be a direct one with the Council Rock, H.S. in Holland, PA (near Philadelphia, PA). Astronaut Drew Morgan, KI5AAA will be hosting the contact.

I have the privilege of being the ARISS Mentor for this contact and I plan to be on-site at the school during the event.

The ISS pass associated with this contact is a high one (71 degrees at TCA) and we should be able to hear Drew answering the student’s questions on the ISS Voice Downlink at 145.800 MHz FM. The pass will last 10-15 minutes. It should be possible to hear the downlink with simple 2m vertical antennas or even an HT.

My original post erroneously indicated that this contact was to begin at 1:55 pm eastern on Thursday, December 5th. The correct start time for the contact is actually 12:55 pm eastern on Thursday.

Congratulation to the CRHS team and to Fred for another successful ISS contact!
I was able to copy the ISS downlink with an HT and a mag mount 1/4 wave vertical whip on top of my car. Due to the west to east track, I could not copy the beginning of the Contact but after that, it was 7 degrees above the local horizon it was a clear strong signal to the end of the contact.

The questions Dr. Drew Morgan answered were interesting, I especially liked the one concerning blood flow and distribution in zero gravity.
