I stumbled on to a YouTube video produced by W2AEW that does a great job of explaining I/Q data and processing as it applies to Software Defined Radios and DSP processors. The video shows how I (in phase) and Q (quadrature) signals can be used to produce or demodulate a wide range of signal types including AM, FM, and PSK.
