Recently we have had members ask about new ways for us to have Club Nets on 10 meters. We added a new net at 3:00 PM that we call the “N1FD-NARS Early Bird 10 Meter Net”. This net is managed by NetLogger so users can find the frequency and also use the AIM feature in NetLogger to communicate with eachother. Jim, WQ2H expressed an interest in having a digital option for a 10 meter net on Sundays. We traded emails and I mentioned that I am not presently configured for digital modes, but invited him to try taking it on himself.

Anyone interested in trying out a digital option can do so this Sunday. Jim will be at 28251.5 kHz (28250 kHz dial – 1500 Hz on waterfall) around 6pm Sunday (10/16) using mode Thor22. Jim will use FLdigi and has a small experimental antenna that seems to get around New England pretty well (a 6’ coil shortened horizontal end-fed). Please reply to this post and let us know if you will try and join in or report on your experience with the net after it is over to let us know how it went.

The attached picture shows 10 meters band last Sunday morning. It was wide open to Europe and beyond.

I’ll give it a try on Sunday at 6pm. Never tried Thor but have used Fldigi with PSK31.

Worked great for me. I like Thor22’s  speed and forward error correction compared to a mode like PSK31. I was using a 71′ long end fed 1/2 wave antenna at 10 watts. I am only 5 miles east of Jim, although there are high hills between us.

P.S. N1MKA (my XYL) also made good contact on her radio using an OCF antenna at 10 watts.

Hi folks – worked fine here also. Good 10m low power connections with N1MOA and N1MKA using Thor22. Maybe next week we can shift down 1000 Hz – there seems to be a few east coast CW beacons that are coming through pretty strong on 28251.5. Signals are way up and way down at 2200 UTC, but still pretty much usable. Here’s a good 10m beacon list if you’re looking to avoid the “big guns”.

P.S. For anyone interested in seeing the WQ2H/B 10m 10W CW beacon activity you can visit RBN here.
