Heading to Santa Catarina, Brazil to visit friends at the end of May, 2022.  Does anyone know whether I can bring an HT with me?  Been googling some but haven’t seen anything that tells me definitively what I might need to do in order to bring an HT.  I know there are some repeaters close to where I’ll be staying, and I can speak just enough Portuguese to get by.  Would love to try operating there, but wondering if Customs would impound the radio on my way in when I first land in Sau Paulo and fly onward from there.  Any info or links greatly appreciated.

        Jim,

The ARRL website has some pages with information about operating internationally.  Looks like Brazil is part of the IARP.  You most likely will need a permit.  You can start at http://www.arrl.org/us-amateurs-operating-overseas  and browse the links and other pages in that section of the website for more information.
