In case you have not seen, Bob Bruninga died a few days ago.  Bob was the inventor of APRS (note his call) and has written extensively about it.  He was also a solar power advocate–his book about powering your rig with alternate energy was fairly recently published by the ARRL.  In addition, in his capacity as an instructor at the Naval Academy, he and his students were responsible for a large number of APRS satellites using the amateur bands with varying capabilities.

Amateur radio will miss Bob–he was one of our most creative advocates!
