We made quite a bit of progress on the full station test for our ARISS Crew Contact today. Both the Primary and the Backup stations and their associated antennas systems and computers are all assembled together for the first time. Thanks to Dave, K1DLM, we’ve also got some of the audio gear integrated into the station. Also, the Data Network that supports the system including Livestream video is mostly in place.

I had a chance to operate both stations together and check out some important issues like potential interference between them, common control of the tracking for both antennas from either the primary or the backup laptops, the relative performance of the two stations, etc.

Both stations have full-length (215′) control cables on them and both have feedlines in place for both 2 m and 70 cm so we can make contacts through satellites as part of our testing.

The plan for tomorrow is to put the remained of the A-V and data gear together and complete the test. We’ll post again when those steps are complete.
