International Space Station[/caption]An ARISS contact is scheduled for this Friday, February 5th with students from the Ottawa Carleton District in Ottawa, ON, Canada. The contact will be a multipoint telebridge contact hosted by Fred, AB1OC. The astronaut is Mike Hopkins, amateur radio call sign KF5LJG.
The pre-contact program will begin around 12:20 pm local time and the ISS will come over the horizon at about 12:40 pm local time. You can listen to the downlink from the ISS on 145.800 MHz FM and you can watch the pre-contact program and the contact on the ARISS YouTube channel via the following link –
February 6, 2021 at 9:35 am #112106Hello Everyone,
The contact between the Ottawa Carleton District in Ottawa, ON, Canada, and Mike Hopkins KF5LJG, an astronaut on the ISS went well yesterday. I had the privilege of serving as the Ground Station for this contact; creating a radio link between the students asking questions and the ISS. All 17 students were able to ask their questions and receive answers from Mike.
You can watch a video of the contact here.
February 6, 2021 at 10:26 am #112128Congratulations to Fred, school, and the students, it went perfectly from start to finish.
I was able to copy most of the downlink with just a HT and a whip.
February 6, 2021 at 9:31 pm #112175I watched the event live on youtube and really enjoyed it. Like Hamilton, I also listened in with my HT but had to quiet the audio as the answers received directly from the ISS were one question ahead of the ones relayed by youtube audio stream.
Fred did a great job with his efforts as the active communications link to ISS. If I remember correctly, initial contact was established when the ISS reached central Texas. This speaks a lot for the signal path as the ISS is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) station.
I’m sure the kids will have some good memories to share with their family and friends.

February 7, 2021 at 8:28 am #112186Thank you Hamilton and Mike for listening and watching the youTube feed. We have another contact coming up with Bishop Guertin H.S. here in Nashua, NH the week after next. I hope to have the final date and time for that one in the next day or two. I’ll post it when we do.
