Not sure this is exactly about home brew–more like home hacking. 🙂

I have a Signalinc connected to the accessory port of my IC-9700 but I really wanted to use the +13.8V output of that to run a coax relay to swap an antenna to the 9700 when it is turned on.  They never actually say the official DIN number of that 8-pin plug, and there are at least two DIN 8-pin formats  So looking at pictures a ordered a MIDI splitter.  (MIDI is Musical Instrument Digital Interface).  Good news!  MIDI cables fit fine!  I also ordered a M/M MIDI cable, cut it in half, and hooked a powerpole connector to it.  Now with the splitter I can get both the relay and the audio sent to different places!

If you do this, don’t forget a flyback diode across the relay coil to avoid a lot of back-EMF across the radio output!

A very creative and low-cost solution to a common problem Burns. Thanks for sharing this tip!
