“A Fall worth Falling For” |
At our September meeting we will host Bob Reif, W1XP. Bob will show us how to construct simple but effective MF antennas (160/80/40m) that can fit in a realistic space and budget. He has years of experience in VLF/LF/MF antenna design and installation, both professionally and as an amateur. So, if you ever wanted to get on to 160 meters (and below), or are just curious how the LF stuff works, this is a must-see.
For October we have an exciting new program which will consume virtually the entire evening. It’s AUCTION NIGHT at NARC, here’s your chance to move that boat anchor from your basement to someone else’s basement. There’s no price limit on what you can sell, but depending on the turnout we may need to limit the number of items that each person can offer. We are accepting items of any kind, but the NARC board reserves the right to reject anything deemed inappropriate. You MUST let me know what you plan to sell no later than September 27. Visit www.GoodDeals.net where you’ll find the form to print and fill out and mail/fax it to me. As I receive your information, I’ll add it to that web site so that all may see (unless you tell me NOT to). 20% of the proceeds go to NARC, unless you specify that the item is for donation (sorry, not tax deductible), in which case it’s 100%. This year’s auction master is our own Don Hornbeck, K1EER, and I’ll be coordinating the “behind the scenes” matters. Please bring your item (or a large picture/description if it’s hard to bring downstairs) to the Nashua Public Library at 6:30 PM the day of the meeting (October 2). If your item does NOT sell, be prepared to cart it away after the meeting. Personal checks and cash are both OK at the auction, and please BRING/TELL A FRIEND!
November’s program is somewhat “up-in- the-air”; I’m working to bring in a speaker who will do a show and tell about hidden transmitter hunts, or “Fox Hunts”. I know that members of our troupe have participated in this kind of competition, and I think it will be a great activity to schedule if we can generate enough interest. One other possible program for this month is a presentation on electrical safety for the home and shack.
December is “Awards Night”, and it’s also when we elect our new board of directors. Plus we will have a photographic journey through some of our club’s history. By the way, if you’ve got pictures that you think will be a good addition to this show, please get them to me at by the October meeting. Candid ones are especially wanted, and if you’ve got any that have a good/humorous story behind them, be sure to describe it.
January is “Project Night”; it’s a good chance for you to showcase that latest whatsit or gummybob that you’ve put together. Take advantage of this opportunity to amaze, amuse, and confound.
You don’t have to be a member of the club to share in the fun. Join us at the Nashua Public Library for this meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club.
Your favorite topics make next month’s program!! Tell me about them.
See you at the meeting! de Neil, N1DMA
