Mike brought us up to date about our newly elected ARRL President, Jim Haynie, W5JBP, and his concerted efforts to help bring in the younger generation of amateurs.
Mike also informed us of an upcoming event, the “International Lighthouse Weekend” on August 18 through 20 at Sohier Park, in York Beach, ME. The organizers have gotten the special event callsign, N1L, which should really bring in the traffic. Contact Mike for more info, and bravo for a job well done!
Our upcoming programs promise lots of fun, and very interesting topics. For April, we have Rob Macedo, KD1CY, doing a top- notch presentation about SKYWARN and his activities at the NWS (National Weather Service). Rob is the NWS Taunton ARES SKYWARN Coordinator. SKYWARN is the National Weather Service’s volunteer weather spotting program where spotters provide timely severe weather reporting to NWS for the protection of life and property. The spotters provide ground truth to what the radar is detecting or not detecting. Hillsborough County, NH is in NWS Taunton’s County Warning Area. Rob will discuss NWS Taunton’s role in working with SKYWARN spotters in Hillsborough County NH, how operations work at NWS Taunton and how he interacts with ARES and SKYWARN Coordinators in Hillsborough County NH. He will also explain how the Pack Monadnock Repeater has become an important liaison into Hillsborough County NH. Please attend.
In May I will be doing a hands-on presentation about the use of the PC in the shack, concentrating on (but not limited to) PSK31. I will also be providing sources of information on various software/hardware solutions to logging, and other necessary tasks in the shack. Bring your questions!
For June the program will center on this year’s Field Day activities.
Later in the year we will be experimenting with some new (and old) programs, such as a “Stump the Experts” night, aimed primarily at beginners, and we’re entertaining the idea of having an Auction Night. Got an idea, let me know.
You don’t have to be a member of the club to share in the fun. Join us at the Nashua Public Library for this meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club.
Your favorite topics make next month’s program!! Tell me about them.
See you at the meeting! de Neil, N1DMA
