President Mike, K7CTW, called the March meeting of the Nashua Area Club board of directors to order at 7:15 PM.
On a motion by Ed, K2TE, seconded by Bob, KD1AW, the minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as published.
Under correspondence, Wayne Muller, W1QC, sent a donation of $250 to the club in appreciation for the job club members did in erecting his tower and new antenna.
Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported the club balance at 2,678.12. On a motion by Tracy, N1WIR, second by Bob, KD1AW, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. Membership coordinator Tracy, N1WIR, reported there were 122 members in good standing. She also submitted proposed changes to the membership form for board comment. Activities coordinator Ed, K2TE, reported more than 40 people attended the Cushcraft tour and pizza night.
Under training, president Mike said due to job commitments he needed help in getting the 2-meter CW training sessions underway. Bob, KD1AW, president of vice and training coordinator, also reported the Novice/Tech class was getting underway next month with Gary, W1GRY, coordinating the effort. Bob will also be starting a CW net on 10 meters.
Programs coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, reported that the April program would feature Mike, K7CTW, presenting an introduction to the digital modes of amateur radio. May’s program will be GOTAP, presented by the club’s GOTAP coordinator Mark, N1ZYZ . June will feature Fletch, N1MEO, Field Day Incident Commander and Stuckee, discussing this year’s plans.
Don, KA1GOZ, EC for E-Hills, reported plans to participate in Response 98, a FEMA regional exercise. Hams are needed April 22 to provide communications, since the communities will not be permitted to use telephone lines for communications to state headquarters. Thus far Nashua and Merrimack have indicated an interest.
Under old business, work is being done in finding a new Field Day site. Fletch has been tasked with organizing a committee to find a site. The committee includes: Fletch, N1MEO; Henry, K1CII; and Ken, KE1GI.
Other old business concerned the club’s new web site, N1FD.ORG. President Mike noted it was up and looked good and praised Jim, WW1Y, for his most excellent work. Under new business, discussion was given to additional advertising in the bulletin as some advertisers have not renewed. The various pizza places were seen as potential advertisers. George also discussed the current bulk mail system vs. conventional First Class Mail and e-mail for getting the bulletin to members.
On a motion by Ed, K2TE, seconded by Tracy, N1WIR, the club will use its new callsign, N1FD, for Field Day 1998. The motion carried.
On a motion by Don, KA1GOZ, seconded by Jack, WB4MDC, the meeting was adjourned.
President Mike, K7CTW, opened the April meeting of the Nashua Area Radio Club with the traditional Classie Junque drawing. Winners included: N1ZWT, KC6NPK, K1SI, W1GRY, N1DAQ, WB1N, WA4WIJ, W1DZZ, K2TE, N1SUE, KA1LDF, WW1Y, and N1ZYY. Introductions followed with a number of visitors among those attending. Program coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, introduced Mike, K7CTW, who presented an introduction to the digital modes of amateur radio.
Following the program, Mike opened the business meeting of the club. He called on Jack, WB4MDC, who presented a certificate of appreciation to Sterling Eanes, AK1K, for his tower school and arranging for the tower fairy for Field Day 1997.
On a motion by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, seconded by Pauline, KA1LDF, the secretary’s report was accepted as published in the bulletin.
Treasurer George, WA1DEI, reported the club balance at $2,678.88, and the status of the club’s budget. On a motion by Mary Jane, WA4WIJ, seconded by Jim, WW1Y, the report was accepted as presented.
Membership coordinator Tracy, N1WIR, reported there were 126 members in good standing. Activities coordinator Ed, K2TE, reported that more than 40 people attended the Cushcraft tour and Pizza Night and plans were being considered for another tour later in the year. He also reported plans were underway to arrange for a tour of the Marconi Museum in Bedford on a Saturday.
Under training, president of vice and training coordinator Bob, KD1AW, reported the Novice/Technician class was under way. He also reported he was going to start a 10- meter CW training net on 28410 KHz.
Programs coordinator Jack, WB4MDC, announced that Mark, N1ZYZ, will present the May program on GOTAP; June will be Fletch, N1MEO, Field Day Incident Commander and Stuckee. July is open.
Fletch, N1MEO, reported a Field Day Planning meeting was set for tomorrow, April 7 and the first and third Tuesdays of the month through June at the Chandler Memorial Library and Ethnic Center at 7 p.m.
Under old business, Mike, noted the club web site, N1FD.ORGa was up and running and looking good. He applauded Jim, WW1Y, for his work. Mike also said he was continuing to collect club archives.
Under new business, Jim, WW1Y, announced VE exam sessions were being held this month in Salem and in June at the First Church.
